just finished jonathan strange and mr norrell, by susanna clarke. i really enjoyed it. it's quite long. and those two statements are not in any way connected. it's about the return of magic to england (and, clearly, about jonathan strange and mr norrell). set in england (duh) and a bit of europe in the early 1800's. really fun and involving read... i love it when an author so fully creates a universe and so wonderfully describes it. it didn't have a lot of humor in it, but that's not to say that it was dull. quite the opposite. i found myself doing the thing i do of skipping some lines so i can get to the next event more quickly. man. it was really a lot of fun, and i'm sad i've finished (though glad, because i get quite impatient to know what happens).
i'd definitely recommend this book to those of you with a little time on their hands, or those who don't mind making time to read a really absorbing and imaginative book. plus, neil gaiman likes it! and really, if you don't trust my opinion on this, you should trust his.
