oh man, this mlb thing has been a roller coaster ride

essentially, the deal with directv will be as stated, with a provision that if cable and dish network agree to offer the mlb channel (launching in 2009) in their basic tiers, then the extra innings package won't be exclusive to directv.
i read the first sentence and was devastated, then read the rest of it with some new hope. up and down, up and down.
